Question:  The B1290 calls out, but I am unable to call into it. What do I look
for?
Answer:
If the RING LED on the top of the unit illuminates and remains lit while dialing
into it, then there is a high possibility of line noise. The service provider will
then need to be contacted to repair the line. Also, VFD's have been known to cause interference as well.
If a VFD is present in the system, its power lines need to be moved away from the phone line that is connected to the B1290.
If the RING LED illuminates with the cadence of the ring tones, then check the 'Rings
To Answer' setting in the database. It's most likely set to zero.
Question:  The B1290 does not call out, and when I call into it, I get a busy
signal. The unit also speaks "Telephone Access Error" over the onboard speaker.
How do I troubleshoot this?
Answer:
Connect a touch tone phone to the landline and make a call to your cellphone. If
the call is successful, then the Telco port of the B1290 is most likely damaged
(usually from a lightning strike during the summer months). The unit will need to
be sent in for repair. Completing the online RMA form and including it with the
B1290 will speed up the repair process. A Telephone Line Transient Protector can
also be purchased to help prevent this from occurring again.
Question:  How do I wire the alarm inputs?
Answer:
The inputs look for a transition from an open to ground, or vice-versa (depending
on the database configuration).
Refer to page 14 in the ProTalk Plus manual for additional wiring information.
Question:  Why can't I acknowledge any alarms?
Answer:
If the B1290 is connected to a stationary cell phone instead of a land line, then
check the firmware. This can be done locally by cycling the power of the B1290 and
listening for the spoken version through the onboard speaker, or remotely by entering
*(wait 1 second) ** when prompted for a program code. If the version is below 3.03,
then the unit needs to be sent in for a hardware and firmware update.
If the unit is connected to a landline and/or a radio and this problem occurs, then
check the user voices for any tones recorded at the end. If a tone is present, the
voice will need to be re-recorded. Instead of pressing ** after the voice is spoken,
wait a moment. The B1290 will detect the silence and play back the voice you have
recorded.
Question:  How do I temporarily acknowledge an alarm?
Answer:
Entering # after the acknowledge code will acknowledge the alarm for a fixed time
of 1 hour. When that hour expires, the B1290 will check the inputs again and report
any active alarm(s).
Question:  All of the alarm LED's are flashing and I cannot get the B1290 to
call out. What do I look for?
Answer:
The program cable is connected to the unit. It needs to be removed before the device
is able to operate.
Question:  How do I change a phone number using a touch tone phone?
Answer:
Enter 2** when prompted for a program code (wait several seconds after "Enter Control
Code" is spoken). When "Enter Directory" is spoken, press 1** for Directory 1, 2**
for Directory 2, etc. After a directory is chosen, press ** to cycle through each
line until you locate the desired number. Press 2** to overwrite the number, and
after the beep is heard, enter #0 (phone number)#8 for a simple voice call. The
B1290 will then play back the number. If the number entered is satisfactory, simply
hang up, or press ** until the next number to be changed is located.
