Question:  Am I able to transfer a database remotely?
Answer:
Yes, remote database transfer is possible if a W1, T1 or P1 module is present in
the system. The W1 and P1 modules transfer data through the internet and the T1
module requires the use of a modem. Refer to the Help section in the Link.exe software
for details on how to use this feature.
Question:  Is it possible to use the Link to make outgoing calls much like a
mobile phone?
Answer:
It is possible if a W1 or a W2 module is present in the system. Receiving incoming
calls is not possible, however. To make the call, connect a touch-tone phone to
the TEL port of the M1. Take the phone off-hook, and when "Enter Program Code" is
heard, wait several seconds for the "Enter Program Code" prompt and enter 99**.
After the beep is heard, enter the recipient's phone number followed by **.
Question:  Is it possible to determine when an alarm has occurred, when it was
acknowledged, etc?
Answer:
Event logging is a feature of the B1285 that is accessed using the software. Events
can be viewed within the software or saved as a text file and imported into another
program. Event Logging records events such as:
- When an alarm has occurred
- What time is was acknowledged
- What numbers were called
- etc
Question:  Can a firmware update be performed at the site instead of having
to send the system in?
Answer:
Yes. Should a firmware update/upgrade be required, contact us at support@barnett-engg.com
and the files will be emailed to you.
Question:  What is the difference between a W1 and a W2 module?
Answer:
The W1 module interfaces with a GSM network and the W2 interfaces with a CDMA network.
There is no difference in the overall operation of the Link system, regardless of
which wireless module is chosen.
Question:  How do I activate my W1/W2 module?
Answer:
A W1 module is activated by removing the cover and placing a SIM card in the on-board
phone. If a SIM card is sent to us, this will be done for you prior to the system
being shipped.
A W2 module is activated by your local wireless service provider. The operator will
ask for the ESN (Electronic Serial Number), which is found on the label on the side
of the module. A MIN (Mobile Identification Number) will then be assigned to it.
Using the Link software or programming handset, enter the MIN into the phone.
Question:  My W module has been activated, but I cannot call into it and it
does not call out. What do I look for?
Answer:
Check the RSSI (Receive Signal Strength Indicator). If it's below 6 , ensure that
the antenna is securely connected to the Link. If it is, then a high gain antenna
will be required to boost the signal strength to an acceptable level. Refer to the
Antenna Requirements to find a suitable antenna.
If the RSSI is strong (above 6), then contact your wireless provider for further
assistance.
Question:  Can the ProTalk Link send SMS text messages and/or email?
Answer:
Yes
SMS text messaging will work with either a W1 Wireless GSM Module, or a W2 Wireless
CDMA Module. The contents of the sent text message will include the MIN, Site ID,
Group ID and Alarm ID(s).
For the Link to have email capability, a W1 GSM Wireless Module or a P1 PLC Module
must be present in the system. The contents of the email sent will include the sender's
email address, Site ID, Group ID and Alarm ID(s).
Question:  Can the ProTalk Link connect to the internet?
Answer:
Yes
Much of the data programming functionality of the B1285 Link can be achieved via
the Internet using the B1285-W1 module configured as part of the Link system.
